נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of an extensive cycle path that is a loop around the capital.

It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point is located in Refaim Park below Ein Laban.  נווה פריצקי The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem about half an hour away from the Kerem junction.


On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and a slew of cyclists participated in a ceremony to officially open the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was once a popular tourist destination because of its rich history. Elkin stated that, in addition to its historic treasures the modern tourist industry is integrated into the Jerusalem city. "The opening of this tunnel project is yet another stage in the growth of Jerusalem as an ideal tourist destination for all kinds of travelers in Israel and all over the world."

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of Jerusalem's tourism in all its aspects and the development of exciting tourist attractions and ventures that link the rich history of our eternal capital to its future... I invite all cyclists to come and take a ride along the contemporary, well-maintained road that takes in the view of Old Jerusalem.

Around NIS 25 million were invested in the project, financed by Elkin's ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, with the work carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

נווה פריצקי Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a important tool to realize the dream of changing the concept for transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The tunnel, which is connected to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join existing bike routes in the city as well as those that will be paved throughout the city's neighborhoods in the hope of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors as well as in promoting the green revolution in transportation in the capital city."

The works currently underway include road construction, installation of blowers and advanced electrical and safety systems, to ensure the tunnel is safe for people to walk through at all times of the year.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel allows for access to exclusive recreation areas such as Ein Kerem, a neighborhood that includes a biblical zoo and aquarium and also the historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
