Neve ParitzkiJerusalem's first cycle tunnel has been open in Israel

The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding which is enjoyed by all.
In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially opened by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov Gihon Water Company chairman, and thousands of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once a very sought-after tourist destination due to its historic past. Elkin stated that, today aside from its rich history, Jerusalem is also a destination for modern-day tourists. "The inauguration[of] the tunnel is an additional aspect of the development Jerusalem and its transformation to an attractive tourist destination for all types throughout Israel and the world.

The project was financed by the Elkin's Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin said, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be a central instrument in achieving our goal to change the concept transportation throughout Jerusalem." "The new tunnel will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will be connected to the many cycling routes that exist in the city. These will be paved in its diverse areas. The aim is to promote cycling among the residents of the city.

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the late 1990s to relocate the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant located in Sorek The Sorek Tunnel is located just west of the city. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel that also houses the fifth water line to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.

Current work includes road construction, installation blowers, and advanced safety systems to ensure that the tunnel is secure to use all year.

The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to many recreation sites, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium, and also historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban. נווה פריצקי
